Tools

Here are the tools that I use to make miniature turnings.

This is a magnifying glass headset. It has 5x magnification. It enables me to see fine details in order to cut the wood in the right spot.

Here is a set of miniature turning tools, in 1/8" size. The left one is a spindle/bowl gouge with a side grind, next is a mini-skew, then a bent parting tool and lastly a round nosed scraper.

Here is a close-up of the tools ablove.

Here are 3 homemade miniature turning tools. On the left is a planer blade which has been dulled on the standard cutting edge and then resharpened to be a parting tool. Next is a dentist style pick. One side is sharpened to be a left scraper and the other for a right scraper. This is used for cutting captive rings. On the right is an Allen wrench glued into a length of wood and ground to be a scraper. It's used to hollowing (like globes for Christmas ornaments).

Here is a close-up of the above tools.

Here is another picture of the hollowing tool.

And a close-up of the grind. TheAllen wrench was ground back and then, the top was flattened. Then both sides were ground into a bevel at ~10 degrees and ground to meet in the middle of the tool to make it round.
