Lathes

Lathe #1

This is an older Sears tube lathe with a 1 HP motor hanging off the back.
It was my first lathe and was picked up at a yard sale for $35. It was not functional since the tailstock was not properly assembled. After stewing on it for a couple of hours, I inserted a 1 inch long brass plug under the locking clamp and it worked great.

The lathe had 5 speeds which were selected by moving the belt on the motor pulley.

Lathe #2

Here I am working on my second lathe, a Nova 3000 lathe with a 1 1/2 HP variable speed motor. This was a very nice lathe (other than reaching across the work, like in this picture).

Current Lathe

My current lathe is a Oneway 2436 with a 3 HP variable speed motor. It's a wonderful lathe which I've enjoyed turning miniatures to 80 lb bowl blanks on! I can't imagine asking for anything more in a lathe (oh, but wouldn't I like one of those ornamental lathes?).
